Just because a child has a disability does not mean they cannot have fun!
La Fundación Elliot George decided to adopt this as their mantra for their next project. In September 2005, the committee of the foundation agreed that the children at Aprona could do with a soft indoor play area. A space normally used as storage, was crying out to be used for this very purpose. Armed with measurements, we approached a local company and set about to achieve our target.
Although the company specialised in this type of play centre, as yet they had not undertaken a project of this nature. Changes would have to be made. After many weeks of meetings between ourselves, the company and the physiotherapists at Aprona, we managed to adapt the units utilised in creating such a play centre. Our main priority was to ensure that all children, of different ages and varying degrees of disabilities, would be able to enjoy playing in a safe and colourful environment, reaping the benefits of playful exercise.
The soft indoor play centre was installed in February 2006 to the delight of the children. Now they too can consider celebrating a birthday with fun and games in the style we are all accustomed to.
